We are thrilled to announce the official release of VidaNovaVLE™ 2.0! This latest version represents a significant leap forward in our mission to revolutionize health sciences education. Our Flagship Institutions, including the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University, Burnett School of Medicine at Texas Christian University, PSR/RPS Canada, and Toronto Metropolitan University School of Medicine, have been instrumental in shaping this release. Their invaluable feedback, innovative ideas, and feature suggestions have been central to our development process.

New and Enhanced Features in VidaNovaVLE™ 2.0

Here are just a few highlights from our latest release:

Practicum Module

Our innovative practicum/clinical scheduling features provide advanced visualization of learner schedules, eliminating the need for spreadsheets to track scheduled and unscheduled learners and their experiences. This module also tracks sites and instructors, along with their affiliation agreements and credentials, ensuring timely action when agreements expire, or credentials are missing.


Assessment and Evaluation

Highly configurable and customizable assessment and evaluation features, including the ability to create form types, scales, rubric items, forms, etc., all while tagging these with taxonomy nodes such as your institutional learning objectives, Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs), etc. Automation of assessment and evaluation form delivery based on both course and practicum schedules is supported, ensuring tasks are sent out on time. Support for competency-based education with more features and enhancements coming in 3.0!


Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship (LIC) Scheduling Automation

Automated LIC scheduling – the first of its kind! Thanks to insight from our Flagship Institutions, we have developed an automated way to schedule learners into an LIC schedule. This removes the need for administrators to manually sort through all of the different possible schedule permutations to achieve the most ideal schedule while becoming the only self-service LIC functionality in this space.


Advanced Secure Exam Delivery Features

We added the ability for learners to review their exam feedback securely. We also added the ability to strike through distractors to narrow down the potential responses while providing the learner with the ability to highlight question text that they feel is important. The ability to use a calculator while taking exams has also been added. Furthermore, we now support importing tagged exam questions in bulk via XML, aiding institutions in transitioning away from other exam providers. VidaNovaVLE™’s native taxonomy management features accurately track which questions assess specific parts of the curriculum, all within one platform.


Attendance Taking

We recently added some advanced attendance-taking functionality, including allowing learners to self-report their attendance and a kiosk mode for swiping learner cards to capture attendance when entering the classroom. Attendance reports were also added, making it easy for administrators to review attendance records. This functionality is highly configurable, allowing institutions to set grace periods for what it means to be late versus being on time. Administrators can also enable the ability to notify specific individuals or users with certain roles when a particular learner attendance status has been entered (e.g., late, absent, etc.).


Required Experience Logging

This highly configurable module leverages our assessment and evaluation work to allow administrators to create their institution’s required experience log form(s) that enables learners to log their experiences. These logs can be associated with their schedule and the experiences they are scheduled into. What makes this module especially innovative is that institutions can create taxonomy log items and add them to their log forms. This allows for dynamic lists to be generated for selection by the learner, pulling in taxonomy groups and nodes bespoke to your institution.


Multiple Feature Enhancements Throughout VidaNovaVLE™

Based on Flagship Institution feedback, additional enhancements have been made across VidaNovaVLE™. We added advanced searching and filtering throughout the platform and have made our already intuitive taxonomy map even more innovative and user-friendly – further harnessing its power for visualizing complex curricular structures while creating transparency in the curriculum for all, including learners!
